“We are a bedding company and we produce beds,” says Mete Akyurek, a partner of Yataksan, a family business, partnered by three brothers and their parents.
Established in 1977 by founding father Ibrahim Akyurek to produce foam beds, Yataksan is now producing for every group of buyers in the industry, from spring beds to visco beds, from baby beds to hotel mattresses. “Since at the beginning we have been trying to improve the quality of bedrooms both in Turkey and in Europe. I started in this business with our father 36 years ago. There are more producers of mattresses in Turkey more than that were needed.” says Akyurek.
“Earlier we have been producing egg shaped sponge mattresses made of polyurethane materials. They were not healthy though were sold hot. At the beginning of 90’s, spring mattress producers have emerged. Yataksan was among the top ten in those years. Now we have 10 different products of bonnel spring, ten others are made hercules spring. We also produce latex and visco mattresses.”
“We procure all inputs in from domestic sources. We produce with small batches to serve best to our buyers. Our daily production capacity is 150 beds. We can triple it when needed by additional shifts.
We sell our products mostly in Turkey, because prices were down in export markets. Following the crisis in 2008 bedding industry has experienced a serious recession, some has protect their positions. The years 2012 and 2013 were rather good for us. We strengthened our positions with new products and increasing the level of customer satisfaction.
In 2014 we will increase our capacity by 15 to 20 percent. World markets are in still living a recession. The situation in Europe is unknown. Europe and North African markets can be good drives for our industry if we can increase exports to these countries.
Domestic market is like a black box. Customers are becoming more aware of the importance of quality of beds for their sleep and their health.” concluded Mete Akyurek.
