Having realized many successful works in recent years the Turkish furniture sector has achieved a new unity. Established by the unity of Turkish Furniture Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MOSDER), Furniture Accessories Industrialists Association (MAKSDER), Furniture Industrialists Importers’ and Exporters’ Association (MOBDER), Office Furniture Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (OMSIAD), Wooden Kitchen and Bathroom Furniture Industrialists’ and Importers’ Association (MUDER), Furniture Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MOBSAD), the new federation MOFSED, which is the first federation of the sector, was officially established. Chairmanship of the new federation was assumed by MOSDER chairman Ahmet Gulec, and the board members are Engin Kucuk, Murat Tunc, Seyfi Cahit Ayaskan, Munis Tezbasaran, Ercan Ata and Ismail Dogan.
The leading names of the furniture industry came together for a Ramadan iftar (fast-breaking dinner). MOSDER members and press reps attended the dinner where MOSFED Chairman Ahmet Gulec delivered a short speech and said, “The successful performance of the Turkish furniture industry realized in the last decade has been continuing with no halt. This fastdevelopment will continue to operate at world standards. The establishment of the federation is a good step to realize our target of an export volume of 10 billion dollars and a production volume of 25 billion dollars.” Pointing out that the Turkish furniture sector’s 2023 target of 6 billion dollars of export volume was revised to 10 billion dollars, Gulec said that the sector increased the export volume from 350 million dollars to 2.2 billion dollars marking 7 folds during last 10 years. Mentioning the importance of the mattress industry together with the furniture industry MOSFED Chairman Ahmet Gulec said, “Turkey has some important mattress producers. These producers, of course, consider exports, too. In Turkey furniture and mattress industries act together. In some other countries these two are produced differently. Brazil, for instance, is a good example for this difference. We have separate mattress stores and stores with furniture and mattress together.” Underlining the fact that Turkey has a mattress sector using latest technology, caring for human health, innovative and environmentally friendly, Gulec said that the sector has been growing every day. “We have some members who produce only mattresses. We do our best to help mattress producers whenever they need any help. The mattress industry is also growing with exports as the furniture industry. Freight costs are causing big problems for exporters in recent times. These types of problems in Iran and Russia have a negative affect on exports. We believe that these problems will be overcome in the future and we will export more,” Gulec said.
