Producing mattress for 40 years, Mekan offers a new concept.
Renewing its concept the company focused on simplicity, expertise and social responsibility. Mekan Mattress Company produces upper segment mattresses made of natural materials. Ulku Caglayan, brand manager of the company, informed about sales strategy and activities of the company.
What are your targets in this restructuring campaign?
For the first time in 40 years, we carried out an image study for Mekan. Three points have emerged. One was the simplicity, the second was the expertise and the third dimension was the social responsibility. Also was, the sustainability, however, it was covered by the expertise dimension. Simplicity has excited us, much, because we have been living in a sophisticated world.
The brand targets to renovate its image. Top priority is to open up to the world. Secondly we want to emphasize on the environment and sustainability. I personally try to find ways to engage more in these directions. Next come the social responsibility and sustainability issues.
So can we say that Mekan will use sustainable products in the production?
We need time for this. However, it is our aim to be sustainable. We have some considerations in this regard. One of them is to have some machinery for recycling. The second point is to use natural materials. This is also true in textile industry. We decided to apply this concept in mattress industry, and started to use natural materials more especially in our premium line of products. Classical series are sold in domestic market. We seek new sales channels for premium products as other brands do. We have no exclusive store in domestic market.
Will you inform us about your strategy? What are your plans for both domestic and export markets?
The development of the strategy is about to be completed. We may inform you about it later on. We consider to market our products both in domestic and export markets through the same strategy.
Presently we export mainly to Europe. We focused on this part of the world. We have 40 years of experience in the industry and known as a serious producer.
Which kind of natural materials do you use in these mattresses?
We use natural materials such as latex, horsehair, cotton, wool and Kashmir in the premium line of products. We have to be careful while processing latex in the manufacturing processes to keep their natural specs. The other natural materials can be used directly in the production. Fabrics of the mattresses are also made of natural materials, such as cotton and even from silk.
