The firm has been in the furniture business under its own brand name since 1991, however, Ipek Mobilya has been active in this sector ever since the 1970s, it is continuing its business in the field of furniture production as well as in the mattress sector.
Lately the firm has produced 13 new items with the help of new technologies and presented them to the consumers. According to Fazli Ceylan, Commercial Manager of Ipek Mobilya, a bed is one of the most important factors in a person’s life, and therefore, they are working on creating new technology mattresses in this regard.
Would you give us some information regarding Ipek Mobilya ?
Ipek Mobilya’s past goes way back in time. It used to be active in this sector under another name. Our firm has been in the manufacturing business since the 1970s. In 1991 our firm became a brand name and started production in the real sense of the word.
What items are included in the production range of Ipek Mobilya? What do you produce for the mattress sector?
In terms of soft group, we manufacture armchairs, sofas, corner sets, aside from these we also manufacture panel and all types of furniture groups, and finally, we produce mattresses and bed bases. At the present time, we have 13 types of items in production. Our mattress ranges start from the economic mattresses to fully orthopedic ones endowed with technologies such as visco.
Lately our mattress ranges of Midnight, Safir and Clean Form are among the favorite items of the consumers. These mattresses are anti-bacterial and endowed with pocket spring systems; we also use latex and visco technologies. Your body heat is absorbed and returned to you therefore you do not feel any discomfort. Out of 24 hours we spend on an average 8 hours of our time in bed. So in order to enjoy a good night’s sleep, the mattresses should be very well capable of taking the form of our bodies.
Production
Our manufacturing plant is located on a 110 thousand meter squares area. 70 thousand meter squares of this area are constituted of closed areas. We have 3 R&D departments. These departments are each working separately on soft, panel and mattress groups. The personnel at our R&D department are conducting research work on the colors and trends for the current year. They also participate to domestic and overseas exhibitions and examine the products exhibited. Afterwards they gather these details and create products and mechanisms.
How does your mattress manufacturing affect your exports?
Exports make up 40% of our total turnover figures. We are exporting our goods to Europe, Africa, Asia and Turkic Republics. We also sell to many countries, from Nigeria to Portugal. Our export figures to Russia and East Europe remain low as we are unable to export much to these countries. The reason for this is that the cost of finished goods in these countries is very high. Taxes are very high in these countries; therefore, we are delivering our products to these places via other countries. Iraq, Libya, Morocco and Algeria are our favorable markets.
We have a young population. In Turkey there are around 19 million single men and women. In the past, people would change their furniture every 7 years. Now, however, this period has dropped down to 3 years. The new generation in particular prefers to change their furniture more often. This in turn has a positive effect on our business.
Finally is there anything else you would like to add?
We expect our growth figures to reach up to 35% in 2014. Our sole preoccupation is the fluctuation in exchange rates. At the end of the first quarter of the present year, thing shall return to normal. We shall then continue to implement our goal to increase our sales.
