Experts say that a good sleep is the basic factor for both physical and mental health besides healthy and balanced diet. They also emphasize on the positive effects of milk consumption by noting that it contains vitamin B6, B12 and other essential nutrients.
Nuh Naci Yazgan University Faculty of Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics President Prof. Dr. Nariman Faith, gender, age, saying that the factors affecting the sleep of physical activity and nutrition, said that certain foods and beverages sleep affects.
Common needs of humans, sleep accounts for one third of our lives on the average and the body rejuvenates itself during sleep. Sleeping is essential for a healthy body as much important as breathing, eating and exercising. Serotonin in the milk effects sleep quality positively and every people of every age have to drink two cups of milk daily.
President of Dietetic department of Nuh Naci Yazgan University, Prof. Dr. Neriman Inanc, has pointed out that the amount of need for sleep depends on the age, gender, diet, activity, health status of the people and some of the foods and drink affects the sleep quality.
Sleep periods of people may change depending on the surrounding environment and individual characteristics. She said, “Sleep needs of children is about 10-12 hours a day, for a healthy adult it is 6-9 hours, and even up to 6.5 hours in older people.”
“Caffeine is a stimulant drug and caffeine-containing beverages taken before bedtime (coffee, tea, cola) will make it difficult to sleep. Studies showed that diets that rich on fat and refined carbohydrates, and lack of consumption of vegetable, and disordered meals, have negative impacts on sleep.” she said.
Reminding that in many western countries milk cow is accepted as a calming food, Neriman Inanc said: “Milk contains melatonin tryptophan, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 effective on quality of sleep, is one of the main food sources good for quality sleep. Without having regular sleep it is not possible to talk about the mental and physical health of the people. People of each age group have to consume milk if they want a healthy life.”
