People show great interest in healthy and quality mattresses
Especially after the pandemic period, people want to have a more efficient sleep experience by giving importance to healthy and quality mattresses.
The mattress market is growing by leaving the furniture sector, especially with the stores opened after the pandemic period. After the pandemic period, the pace of the mattress industry has clearly increased. The fact that people stay at home for a long time has brought the demand for technological products to the top. People who want to reach a healthy and quality sleep increase the competition in the mattress industry.
Competition in the mattress market, which has grown by leaving the furniture industry with its own concept stores, is increasing day by day. People show great interest in quality, ergonomic and technological products. For this reason, companies that initiate R&D processes and expand their research aim to eliminate body pain caused by mattresses. Companies enable people to start their day fresh with ergonomic and orthopedic mattresses that take the shape of the body. On the other hand, mattresses that are suitable for room conditions also attract attention.
In addition to ergonomic mattresses, mattresses for stress reduction made from products such as sand and seaweed also come to the fore in the mattress market. During the pandemic period, hygienic mattresses and textile products that kill bacteria were also launched. New products are being produced in the mattress market and the variety of mattresses is increasing. Thus, the mattress change times were also shortened. The mattresses used to be changed every 20 years, now they are changed every 5-6 years. For this reason, it is clearly seen that the habit of mattress consumption has changed with the pandemic process.
Diversity is increasing in the mattress market
Nuri Gürcan, Chairman of the Furniture Industry Businessmen’s Association (MOBSAD), stating that the diversity in the mattress industry has increased with the pandemic process, said that 5 million mattresses are sold annually in Turkey and that the mattress market has grown and developed.
Emphasizing that there are 30 national brands in Turkey and that the sector has grown more during the pandemic period, Gürcan, “The main purpose of mattress models is to ensure that people get better and quality sleep. Ergonomic mattresses, which completely take the shape of our body, help us to start the day more fit. Mattresses produced with the best technology make our body aches less and we become more energetic. There are many types of mattresses, from seaweed-infused mattresses to smart mattresses. Compared to the past, mattresses have diversified and improved,” he said.
Consumers instantly adapt to new trends
Stating that the mattress does not have the largest share in furniture yet, Doğtaş Kelebek Furniture CEO İsmail Doğan said that people’s habits have changed. Noting that the frequency of mattress changes has increased, İsmail Doğan said, “With the increase in hygienic factors and customer awareness, people adapt to new mattress trends much faster than furniture. Especially the mattresses, which help to eliminate health problems, prevent back and neck pain. Mattresses tend towards spinal health and people’s sleep quality improves. Therefore, people show great interest in sleep world trends and contribute to the growth of the industry.”
Expressing that the concept of “healthy sleep”, which has been ignored in the last few years, has become more important with the pandemic period, İşbir Holding CEO Metin Gültepe continued his words as follows: “There will be situations that the pandemic will change in our lives. The effect of sleep health on the immune system and the search for deep and uninterrupted sleep will be one of the most important factors. As the search for a quality sleep experience increases, the market and the industry will become even more valuable.”
The mattress industry is developing with technology
Stating that new products are attracting attention in the mattress market and digitalization has come to the fore, Metin Gültepe, CEO of İşbir Holding, “Technology will play a more important role in the mattress industry in the future. Technologically oriented production is at a very important point in all areas from mattress production to sleep technologies. Therefore, we think that the trends that focus on technology will prevail,” he said.
Emphasizing that the mattress industry carries out new generation applications through national and international collaborations, İşbir Holding CEO Metin Gültepe concluded his words as follows: “New technologies and products designed from the experiences of companies gain importance. Consumers have many product expectations. Technologies that measure and analyze sleep health and sleep quality by centering and increase the sleep experience draw attention. The mattress, leaving the definition of “a product to sleep on”, becomes one of the important elements that increase our quality of life.”
Turkish companies mobilize the mattress market
Turkey is also at a very important point in the production of mattress components and contributes greatly to the rise in the mattress market. Thanks to the high quality products produced by hundreds of component companies such as Boyteks, Boyçelik, Aydın textile, Elektroteks, Milkay, Mert Makina, Ümit Makina, Sefox and Metal Matrix, better quality mattresses are produced in Turkey. Companies are working to design healthy and high quality products and mobilize the mattress market.
Turkey ranks 15th in mattress production
Turkey has become a rapidly rising value in the world mattress market in recent years. Turkey is the 11th mattress exporting country in the world with 200 million dollars of exports. With an annual production of 6 million mattresses, Turkey continues to exist as the 15th largest mattress manufacturer. It is 90% of the spring mattress production in the world and in Turkey. Foam mattress rate is at the level of 10 percent. Recently, with the increasing production of spring mattresses, large producer groups started to produce springs. This situation causes the mattress market to rise rapidly.
