Mattsons Beds, a manufacturer of premium beds and mattresses and possibly the world’s oldest family-owned premium bed company, have to coincide with their celebrations of 170 years as a company engaged in a partnership with Italian One Ocean Foundation. The foundation was started in 2017 to increase the global awareness of the negative effects plastic pollution in our seas have on our everyday life, as well as making the connection to the effect on the global economy through their detailed presentation Blue Economy. As part of the celebration of 170 years as a family-owned company, the partnership with One Ocean Foundation is in every way in line with the traditions of Mattsons as a family and a company.
The foundation, based in Milan and in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, was founded in 2017 by the YCCS (Yacht Club Costa Smeralda) and have since gained a strong following of like-minded organizations, brands and people with ROLEX and ALIANZ among those. The decision to partner with One Ocean Foundation was a natural step for Mattsons Beds, a family-owned company now in its sixth generation whose goal has always been working in a manner as sustainable as possible. The seaside location of the company makes the connection to the seas and all that represents a part of the daily life at Mattsons with the well-being of our seas a priority for many reasons.
Say Oscar Mattson, vice president and representing the sixth generation of Mattsons Beds; “We proudly support the mission of the foundation to accelerate solutions to ocean issues by inspiring international leaders, institutions, companies and people; promoting sustainable blue economy and enhancing ocean knowledge through ocean literacy. As a family, we see the opportunity to actively support the work of the foundation as something very special. For Mattsons to actively be involved in the work of One Ocean Foundation will bring a new dimension to what we do, both as a company and as a group of individuals. Everybody at Mattsons are now looking forward to a string of activities ranging from cleaning our beaches from the plastic debris that covers the beaches of the world in what seems like a never ending stream of particles, to our participation in the by the foundation organized activities and conferences.
The partnership has inspired us to produce a special, limited edition series of beds; OCEAN BEDS By Mattsons, a collection of three handmade beds, upholstered in a special fabric produced by plastic bottles harvested from our seas. Though to a degree a departure from our “all-natural materials” formula, we feel that the benefit of the collection easily outweighs the compromise with regard to this. In addition, the beautiful fabric, in “deep blue” and an “ocean green”, has an exceptionally great feel, a perfect fabric for the occasion.
The proceeds of the sales of the collection will uncut go to supporting the work of the foundation and we are proud to be able to work side by side with the foundation and iconic brands like Rolex, among others. We expect the partnership and our support of the foundation to be ongoing with the OCEAN BEDS collection to see new designs from one season to the next well pas this, our 170th year as a company”
